DAWSONVILLE – A horse was rescued in Dawson County today by Emergency Services after the animal had fallen into a sinkhole.

Dawson County Emergency Services responded to a call for a high-risk horse rescue near the 1300-block of Hugh Stowers Road.

The horse had been trapped since 8 a.m. and witnesses had attempted to assist the equine out of the depression with no luck.

Authorities reached the animal at about 9:30. Fire personnel swiftly prepared a make-shift sling and maneuvered the horse out of the depression with the help of a tractor.

The horse was unharmed, but a veterinarian was called to ensure its welfare. The horse was also provided oxygen and was cooled during the rescue to protect it from the warm weather during the incident.
