Authorities are investigating what appears to be a third sinkhole in Apopka, a city spokesman confirmed Wednesday night.

The hole was discovered by a neighbor in the 1000 block of Spinning Wheel Drive near the Rock Springs Ridge golf course, which called the city’s fire department close to 6 p.m.

City spokesman Robert Sargent said the sinkhole repair is 15 feet wide and 10 to 12 feet deep. Most of the hole is on the golf course, but it also swallowed part of a home’s backyard.

Officials have taped off the area and are keeping a close eye on the hole. Sargent said it was not clear exactly when it formed.

This is the third sinkhole in the area near West Kelly Park Road to cave in the neighborhood of Apopka, one of which swallowed an entire property.
