As a storm rolled through Valley City Thursday night, a sinkhole condemned a house in town. The home, located on 4th Avenue Northeast, has been deemed non-livable by inspectors after the sinkhole formed after flash flooding.

The right side of the basement completely opened up. It is something neighbor Suzy Meridian has never seen. She’s now wondering how safe her home is since it’s just feet away from the hole.

“We first noticed basement windows completely fell in and we didn’t know if she was home or not and we didn’t know it got that big till this morning actually,” Meridian explains.

The Red Cross is assisting that family with a place to stay.
